Description:

Ships’ muster rolls from 29th Sept 1762 – 29th Sept 1763; Society of Merchant Venturers’ archive. Muster roll no: 68.

Muster roll for the slave ship Indian Queen , which sailed from Bristol to Old Calabar (now Nigeria) in West Africa. 300 enslaved Africans were bought and taken to Jamaica. The ship then returned to Bristol with 20 hogsheads (barrels) of sugar, in 1762.

The Society of Merchant Venturers is a Bristol-based organisation, which was formed in 1552 as an elite body of merchants involved in overseas trade. The Society still exists today.
