Timeline - 18th Century - 1788
First public meeting
Slaves packed into the hold of a ship, from a leaflet published by the Plymouth Committee of Abolitionists (people against the slave trade), in 1788. A similar group of Abolitionists was founded in Bristol to campaign against slavery.
